On July 9, 2019, DeKalb County Commissioners Steve Bradshaw, Kathie Gannon and Nancy Jester, members of the Public Works and Infrastructure (PWI) Committee, collectively made an operational decision to have the Office of Independent Internal Audit (OIIA) review all purchasing contracts in excess of $3 million. For the entire year the Internal Auditor generated actual cost savings of $4.8 million. These are savings that resulted in lower contract amounts. Additionally, work of the OIIA allowed for secondary savings and reallocation’s of $24.7 million.
Committee members agreed that providing this additional oversight constitutes good public policy. This operational decision has produced some tangible results for the taxpayers of DeKalb County.
